What are the potential dangers of LPG tanks?
1、Flammable and explosive properties: the main components of LPG include ethylene, ethane, propylene, propane and butane, etc. These components are extremely flammable in the air, and once they meet an ignition source, they will quickly start a fire.
2、Fast diffusion: After LPG leaks, the gas will quickly diffuse into the surrounding environment, forming a flammable vapour cloud or explosive gas mixture, increasing the risk of fire.
3、Overfilling and deformation: cylinder overfilling or severe extrusion and deformation may also lead to explosion.
4、Tank rupture: liquefied petroleum gas tank leakage, the tank may rupture, explosion and so on, the resulting debris and shock waves may cause mechanical injury to the surrounding personnel.
5、Improper operation: the use of liquefied petroleum gas tanks operating improperly, such as inverted use, excessive shaking, the use of mismatched connectors, etc., may lead to tank damage and leakage.
Liquefied petroleum gas is one of the commonly used fuels by residents, but due to the special nature of liquefied petroleum gas, so that in the use, storage and transport process, there are great safety hazards, easy to cause fire and explosion accidents.
The main components of LPG are propane and butane. The use of LPG has the advantages of less pollution, high calorific value, easy transportation and simple storage, so it has also entered people’s life for a long time. However, one of its side effects is that it can be extremely harmful to the human body if it leaks when in use.
The correct use of LPG cylinders, you should first check the appearance of the cylinder to determine whether it meets the requirements:
- Cylinders for the silver-grey, the upper edge should be large red LPG characters, and the name of the filling unit, such as rust and no paint colour of the cylinder can not be used;
- Cylinders without any manufacturing mark; or have a manufacturing plant, but not a regular national factory can not be used;
- Cylinders without warning labels and gas cylinders on the guardrail without the filling station with a filling licence seal mark can not be used;
- Cylinders with loose or detached shrouds, as well as cylinders with detached, deformed bases or other defects affecting their uprightness cannot be used;
- There is no test mark of the gas cylinder or expired unchecked gas cylinders can not be used;
- Cylinders found to have longitudinal welds or spiral welds cannot be used;
General knowledge of the safety of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders
- Cylinders are strictly prohibited overfilling: due to overfilling with liquid with the temperature of the container will produce liquid expansion pressure, and this pressure exceeds the storage tank pressure, will produce a burst.
- It is strictly prohibited to dump the residual liquid: If the residual liquid is poured, the volatile gas phase or its own liquid phase in the diffusion, flow process, once the open flame, a combustion and explosion will occur.
- Strictly prohibit cylinder overgassing: cylinder overgassing refers to the user at home privately will be a cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas poured into another cylinder. Because the overgassing is directly with the hose to transport the liquid, overgassing coefficient to withstand higher pressure, it is likely to rupture.
- Cylinder pressure reducing valve sealing ring must be intact: if the sealing ring off, broken, we must replace the new sealing ring installed. In order to prevent the pressure reducing valve and cylinder angle valve port connection leakage, the pressure reducing valve must be tightened. If the handwheel on the seal ring is not screwed, the pressure reducing valve is loose, easy to leak and cause accidents.
- Strictly prohibit the use of flame baking, boiling water or sunshine cylinder: because the cylinder temperature exceeds the maximum temperature allowed and lead to overpressure, accidents may occur; easy to make the cylinder to produce local pressure and deformation, damage to the material properties, is not conducive to the safe use of cylinders, reducing the service life.
- To use upright: it is strictly prohibited to invert or lie down the cylinder, if the cylinder is placed upside down, it will flow out the liquid, the liquid becomes a gas 250-300 times diffusion and air mixing, it will cause a large area of combustion or even explosion.
