How to correctly install and use a household gas alarm?

2025-06-10

A household gas alarm is an important instrument for preventing household gas leaks. With the improvement of people’s safety awareness, the installation rate of household gas alarms is also increasing. But is the alarm installed in the right position? Can it play an early warning role? Today, let’s learn how to install a household gas alarm~

Household combustible gas detectors can monitor the concentration of combustible gas leaks in real time. When the concentration of the gas to be measured reaches or exceeds the preset value, the alarm will immediately send out an audible and visual alarm signal to remind people to take emergency rescue measures. Instruments with linkage functions can be linked to solenoid valves and fan actions to further ensure gas safety. Instruments with networking functions can push alarms to users in a timely manner through phone calls, text messages, and APPs, and users can achieve remote operation.

How to correctly install a combustible gas alarm?

  1. Choose a suitable installation location

★The gas alarm should be installed on an indoor wall within 4 meters and 2 meters away from the gas appliance or gas source horizontally, and in a well-ventilated place.

★When detecting gas lighter than air, such as natural gas, the alarm should be installed 0.3-0.6 meters from the ceiling.

★When detecting gas heavier than air, such as liquefied petroleum gas, the alarm should be installed 0.3-0.6 meters from the ground.

★Note: Gas alarms should avoid being installed in the following locations:

Where there is a high wind speed, such as in passages; where there is water mist or dripping; where there is a place near the stove that is easily polluted by oil smoke, steam, etc. or a high temperature environment (such as directly above the stove); where it is blocked by other objects (such as in a cabinet); next to vibrating objects such as refrigerators and air conditioners.

★No matter where the gas alarm is installed, its sensor should always face downward. The gas alarm should be installed in a place that is easy to see and hear, and its display panel should face people, and should not be installed on the back or side, etc.

  1. Follow the correct installation steps

① Install the fixed back plate

After determining the installation location, use screws and wall holes to fix the back plate to install the gas alarm in the selected location. Ensure that the installation is firm to avoid the alarm from swinging or falling due to instability.

② Connect the power supply

Select the power supply method according to the type of gas alarm. If it is battery-powered, open the battery compartment cover of the alarm, install the battery, and ensure the polarity is correct. If it is connected to the power supply, you need to connect the power cord of the alarm to the power line.

③ Start the test

After the installation is completed, start the alarm for testing according to the instructions in the manual. Usually, press the “self-test” button to check whether the alarm is normal. During the test, pay attention to the status of the indicator light to ensure that the green light is on normally.

④ Precautions

When installing the gas alarm, avoid touching the sensor components of the alarm to avoid damage or affecting its sensitivity; in addition, after installation, be careful not to block the vents around the alarm to ensure the normal operation of the sensor.

How to use and maintain the household gas alarm correctly?

① Keep the power supply: The gas alarm needs to keep the power supply, otherwise the alarm signal cannot be issued. Do not cut off the power without authorization during use.

② Regular annual inspection: Household gas alarms need regular annual inspections, at least once a year.

③ Replacement upon expiration: According to relevant standards, the service life of a general civil gas alarm is 5 years. It should be replaced in time after expiration.

④ Daily cleaning

When dust can be clearly seen on the surface of the gas alarm, gently wipe the surface with a damp soft cloth. Be careful not to use a wet cloth that is dripping with water; after cleaning, a “self-test” should be performed, and it can only be reinstalled and continued to be used after the test is normal; during the maintenance and cleaning process, the alarm must not be cleaned with chemicals such as alcohol, gasoline, and detergents, otherwise it may cause damage to the instrument.
